Coptic

Characteristics of Coptic bindings:
"exposed spine" sewing - folds of signatures are visible on spine
sewing is visible and creates a chevron pattern - thread can be one or two colors
covers can be made of pretty much anything - see examples; binders board covered with cloth or paper, plexiglass, wood, etc.
at least 160 pages

Examples:

plexiglass covers with maps as paper





binders board covered in corkskin paper; two colors of thread





binders board cover with corkskin and map paper




Rounded Back

Characteristics of Rounded Back bindings:
rounded back
requires cloth on the spine - can be full cloth or quarter bind
quarter bind can have paper on the rest of the cover
at least 160 pages

Examples:

quarter bind with decorative yuzinshi paper


quarter bind with decorative paster paper




quarter bind with hand marbled paper




Paper Case

Characteristics of Paper Case bindings:
soft covers made of thick paper or leather  
rounded back
at least 160 pages, ideally more

Examples:

Gray cave paper 


Flatback

Characteristics of flatback bindings:
similar to the rounded back binding, but with a flat spine
requires cloth on the spine; can be full cloth or quarter bind
at least 160 pages
